About Us

About Independent Medical Nexus

Independent Medical Nexus (IMN) is an independent medical evaluation organization dedicated to helping veterans strengthen the medical evidence supporting their VA disability claims through comprehensive, evidence-based medical evaluations.

We provide comprehensive, records-based VA nexus evaluations and Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs) for veterans nationwide. Every evaluation emphasizes individualized clinical analysis, evidence-based medical reasoning, comprehensive medical record review, and independent medical judgment.

Our providers have experience with VA disability examinations, Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs), medical opinion development, and the evaluation of medically complex cases involving VA disability claims.

Our services support veterans seeking VA disability benefits, including cases involving prior denials, direct service connection, secondary service connection, aggravation, toxic exposure, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), and other medically complex questions reviewed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Through experience participating in VA disability evaluations, we understand how medical evidence is considered during Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations and throughout the VA disability claims process. Some medical questions extend beyond the scope of a routine disability examination and may benefit from a comprehensive review of the available medical evidence.

Independent Medical Nexus was established to provide a structured, evidence-based evaluation process emphasizing individualized medical analysis, comprehensive medical record review, transparent clinical reasoning, and independent medical judgment.

Why Independent Medical Nexus Was Created

Independent Medical Nexus was founded to provide veterans with access to comprehensive, independent medical evaluations focused on the quality of the medical evidence supporting VA disability claims.

Our experience reviewing medical evidence and participating in disability evaluation processes highlighted the importance of clear clinical reasoning, individualized analysis, and comprehensive records review when complex medical questions arise. IMN was established to provide an organized, evidence-based process that helps ensure each evaluation is based on the specific medical facts of the individual case.

Independent Medical Nexus also believes education plays an important role in helping veterans better understand the medical evidence supporting their claims. In addition to providing independent medical evaluations, IMN maintains a growing educational library covering independent medical evidence, VA nexus letters, secondary service connection, aggravation, toxic exposure, medical literature, and other topics commonly encountered throughout the VA disability claims process.

Our mission is simple:

To help veterans strengthen the medical evidence supporting their VA disability claims through comprehensive, independent medical evaluations performed by appropriately qualified U.S. licensed medical providers.

Our Commitment to Independence

Every independent medical evaluation is based upon the medical evidence submitted for review and the reviewing provider's independent medical judgment.

Medical conclusions are developed from the individual facts of each case, accepted medical principles, clinical reasoning, and, where appropriate, relevant medical literature—not predetermined outcomes.

This commitment to independence helps ensure that every evaluation reflects an objective medical assessment of the available evidence.

Our Evaluation Methodology

Every independent medical evaluation begins with a comprehensive review of the medical evidence submitted for consideration, which may include:

  • Service Treatment Records (STRs)

  • VA medical records

  • Private medical records

  • Diagnostic imaging and laboratory findings

  • Prior Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations

  • Prior medical opinions

  • Clinical history and documented progression of the condition

  • Functional limitations and relevant medical relationships

Every independent medical evaluation performed through Independent Medical Nexus is developed using clinical judgment, documented medical evidence, accepted medical principles, and, where appropriate, relevant peer-reviewed medical literature.

Each opinion reflects the reviewing provider's independent medical judgment based upon the medical evidence submitted for review.

Clinical Experience & Standards

Our work reflects more than 30 years of U.S. clinical experience in patient care, medical evaluation, disability assessment, and medical decision-making, supported by experience across multiple areas of clinical practice and familiarity with VA disability evaluation processes.

Evaluations are completed by appropriately qualified U.S. licensed, doctorate-level medical providers whose education, training, and clinical experience align with the medical questions presented.

Each evaluation is developed with consideration of:

  • VA disability evaluation principles

  • Compensation & Pension (C&P) examination practices

  • Accepted medical opinion methodology

  • Evidence-based clinical reasoning

  • Medical probability standards

  • Clear, well-supported medical rationale

Rather than relying on generalized templates or standardized language, every evaluation is developed according to the specific medical facts, history, diagnoses, and evidence submitted for review.
