Specialist Pathway

Independent Medical Opinion with Specialty-Specific Physician Review

Essential Specialist Pathway

The Specialist Pathway is an additional option for Veterans who specifically request, or whose case is appropriate for, review by a U.S.-licensed physician with expertise in a particular medical specialty.

Specialist Pathway pricing is based on both the level of medical analysis required and the specialty-specific review involved.

Best for: Veterans who specifically request specialty-specific physician review or cases where the medical question is appropriate for review within a particular medical specialty.

What Is the Specialist Pathway?

The Specialist Pathway provides a records-only Independent Medical Opinion with specialty-specific physician review.

Essential, Enhanced, Advanced, and Complex describe the level of medical analysis required. The Specialist Pathway identifies the type of medical provider requested or assigned to perform that review.

Specialist review may be appropriate when:

  • The claimed condition involves a specific medical specialty

  • Prior medical evidence or opinions involve specialty-specific issues

  • The Veteran specifically requests review by a physician within a particular specialty

  • The scope or complexity of the medical question warrants specialist review

What You Receive

Your case is reviewed by a U.S.-licensed physician with expertise in the applicable medical specialty, subject to provider availability, case scope, and appropriateness.

Your Specialist Pathway service includes:

  • Review of submitted service and medical records relevant to the claimed condition(s)

  • Independent medical analysis by the assigned specialist physician

  • Specialty-specific analysis of the medical questions presented

  • Analysis of direct, secondary, or aggravation relationships when applicable

  • A written Independent Medical Opinion (IMO) based on the findings of the specialist's independent medical review

  • Secure electronic delivery of the completed opinion

How Pricing Works

The initial Specialist Pathway checkout is $2,495 and applies to a focused Essential-level specialist review.

If your case requires a higher Specialist Pathway level, your initial $2,495 payment is applied toward the total service price.

You will be notified of the appropriate review level and total price before higher-level review proceeds. If you choose to proceed, you will receive a secure checkout for only the remaining balance.

No higher-level Specialist Pathway review or additional payment will be required without your authorization.

Important Before You Purchase

The Specialist Pathway is a records-only independent medical review service. No appointment, physical examination, or telehealth visit is included or required unless specifically stated otherwise.

Specialist assignment is subject to provider availability, specialty, case scope, and appropriateness of the requested review.

You are purchasing the professional review and analysis of your medical and service records and preparation of an Independent Medical Opinion based on the findings of that review.

A favorable medical conclusion is not guaranteed. Depending on the evidence, the specialist's independent findings may be favorable, neutral, unfavorable, or may determine that a requested medical conclusion cannot be supported by the available evidence.

This service does not include medical diagnosis or treatment, legal advice, claim preparation, or VA representation.

Medical review begins once your submitted records are accessed by the assigned reviewing provider. Payment becomes non-refundable once medical review has begun.

If a higher Specialist Pathway level is required, the additional review does not begin until the applicable remaining balance has been authorized and paid.

All medical opinions are independently determined from the evidence available for review. All VA claim and rating decisions are made solely by the Department of Veterans Affairs. No specific VA rating, service-connection decision, or claim outcome is guaranteed.
